ABOUT ME

My journey to becoming a homebirth midwife saw me through pre-vet and psychology as an undergrad, earning my masters in maternal and child health, and many experiences around the globe that all helped shine a light on my hearts passion for midwifery and healing in 2008.

I have been a practicing midwife since 2011 after graduating from Birthwise Midwifery school and precepting with midwives in Maine and Washington. My husband and I share two sons, homeschool, and are settling in to the timber frame he has spent the last 8 years building by hand.

Mount Vernon Midwifery provides midwifery care to low-risk women.

Appointment scheduling is flexible.  I offer evening and weekend appointments to accommodate families.

TESTIMONIALS

MY philosophy of care

  • I hold the belief that pregnancy and birth are normal and healthy life events.  I trust women’s bodies and their ability to grow and deliver babies.  I believe that the birth process will unfold organically and uniquely for each individual woman, and for each individual baby.  I practice with the belief and understanding that labor and birth generally work at their optimal pace and intensity when undisturbed and with the least amount of interventions.

  • I use my intuition, clinical skills and knowledge as well as my strong relationship with you to know when additional assistance may be warranted during your labor or any other part of your care.  It is my hope that I am successful in holding a sacred and safe space for you to follow your instincts and birth your baby your way.

Should a situation arise where more active management is necessary from me, I will use my midwifery skills to either handle the situation at home (if during labor) or my office (if pre or post natal), or provide care while transferring you to more appropriate medical care at the hospital.

  • I believe that one of the most sacred, special and unique aspects of midwifery care is the role that you play as an active participant in your health care decisions.  I honor this and encourage you to take responsibility for the choices you make.  My role in the decision making process is to provide you with unbiased information, answer questions, and provide you with additional resources so that you may make your decisions from a place of knowledge and understanding.  It is my philosophy that I work with you and honor your requests, as opposed to telling you what choices you should be making and dictating the direction of your care...we are a team!
